89 Degrees was my individual honours project at university. It was a first-person puzzle-platformer centred around rotating the game world.
The player was limited to using only two core mechanics (excluding movement): the first was the ability to rotate the world upon its axis 90 degrees forwards, backwards or sideward. The second was the ability to pick and drop cubes scattered around the level that acted as keys used to progress throughout the various rooms.
The puzzles within the game are all designed around the rotation mechanic. This includes - but isn’t limited to - things such as rotating the world to avoid physics-based hazards, gain access to cubes (that act as keys), or to navigate areas through platforming.
